Comment : I've just surfed onto your very interesting web site. Thank
you.
I 'm a skater from bygone years, and would like to correct one of your statements
in the "jumps" section.
Sonja Henie never did an axel. I skated with her in
her show for three years, and in that time I was fascinated by what she called
her 'Yumps'.
They looked something like an axel, but she never called them that.
On several occasions I had the opportunity to check her tracings, and she turned
a three briefly before she left the ice. Her 'Yumps' were really a kind of Salchow.
The fact is that Sonja Henie only did jumps with one rotation. She never did
a jump with one and a half rotations or more.
NOTE ***
The toe loop was invented in the 1920s by Bruce Mapes, an American professional show skater.
